5 Furniture Design Trends Expect to See in 2022 (Updated)

The year is heading into its final months and so we decided to recap on what the 5 Furniture Design Trends Expect to See in 2022. TG Décor’s team are constantly on the lookout for new and exciting trends to offer to our clients. Our personal approach of understanding your custom hand-made furniture needs and wants is intrinsically linked with global and South Africa furniture styles, so we decided to put a list of 5 trends we expect to see in 2022.

Textured Surfaces

Textures will become all the rage. From fluted glass, flashes or rattan and the juxtaposition of wood and leather. Texture will be a serious buzzword when it comes to placing any customized furniture order in 2022. In line with this trend, we will also look for less expected ways to capitalize on these mixed materials. Keeping it fresh and unexpected.

Matte Metals

When it comes to steel, TG Décor knows a thing or two about how to apply the best finish (for inspiration click here) . Our powder coating repertoire adds the flash and finesse to the final piece. For our next trend prediction, we see a rise in matte metal finishes. That’s right… less shine, more matte. Adding to the textured approach (see above) we believe a fundamental shift in how custom pieces are going to steer clear of the sheen and focus more on the subtle no-reflective elegance of matte metal.

Smart Furniture

Smart furniture is not something new and has been around for some time. With new tech available and the pandemic playing a role in a greater work from home environment, we see the demand for pieces in this market growing rapidly. Smart furniture, or functional furniture, allows for several different elements to be integrated into your custom piece, such as charging mobile devices, self-raising desks, and more. Savvy brands already offering smart furniture solutions to meet the demands of this changing lifestyles and utilizing AR and VR tech to showcase their portfolios. Who doesn’t want to see their pieces in photorealistic quality? Can anyone say Metaverse. (This will be a blog for another day)

Multifunctional Living

Times have been tough for a lot of people over the last 2 years. Custom furniture design has risen to the challenge of creating maximum comfort in small spaces at an affordable cost. Furniture and decor should be adapted to suit changing needs, especially in pandemic times. Modular systems that are scalable (allowing them to be adapted to different room dimensions), variable (with pull-out technology, etc.) and versatile will become the norm. Think ergonomic focus (dining room table transforms into standing desk), as well as a fresh aesthetic approach to uncluttered spaces.

Outdoor Furniture

Following on from our pandemic theme above, there has been a huge shift in how we treat and respect our outdoor furniture. With a lot more time spent at home, and especially outdoors, we see a major trend line shifting towards a more sophisticated and refined approach to how we treat outdoor furniture, its function, and its form, as we continue to merge our interior lifestyles and decor with our outdoor entertaining spaces.
